TWO THINGS TO DO

SOME DO’S AND DON’T’S

Before I give you some do’s and don’ts, I want to point out that the list below is given as a guide. It is nothing more and nothing less than just a guide. No one is saying you have to adhere and follow through on every item on the list. You also do not have to follow those you want to follow in the order given. I leave it up to you to follow this guide in any fashion you wish to.

With that in mind, here it is:

1. Make sure to introduce yourself to the wedding guests.

Don’t count on your peerless reputation to precede you. Most of these people do not know you from Adam. You can never assume that everyone knows who you are because it almost certainly is not so, unless you are say, Mel Gibson or Brad Pitt.

Let every one know within seconds of standing up that you are (give your name) tell them you are the best man, and then that you wish to offer a toast for the bride and groom. If you fail to do that, you risk being taken for just some drunken guest that suddenly feels like standing up and talking to any one that will listen.

2. Make sure to tell everybody how you come to know the bride and groom. Who are you in the scheme of things? Are you a friend of both of the couple? Were you the groom’s roommate in college? Are you his brother? Were you the guy who introduced the two of them to each other way back in junior high school? Regardless of who you are, this is your moment to make it known that you have something important to say. Let all among you know that you are of sufficient importance and significant enough to have the right to toast the happy couple. Do that, and you may get some attention.

I will continue with my list on my next blog, until that time Click here to find out more about best man speeches for wedding.
